The British Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, is likely to win a clear majority in the 2024 UK election, according to an exit poll.

The exit poll shows Labour is on track to win about 410 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons, while the Conservatives are set to win 131. The centre-right Conservatives have governed the country since 2010. It would be the worst result for the Tories in the party’s 200-year history and would plunge the party into chaos.

The exit poll also predicts the left-wing Liberal Democratic Party will win 61 seats, while the right-wing populist, anti-immigration Reform Party will win 13 seats. The Green Party is likely to win two seats.

Market reaction

Sterling (GBP) remains steady after exit polls suggested a landslide victory for Labour. At the time of going to press, GBP/USD was down 0.03% on the day and trading at 1.2755.
