U.Today – The last 12 hours have been absolutely crazy in the crypto space as major US television network HBO announced the imminent premiere of its fresh series “Money Electric: The Story”. However, the cause of the hype was not the program itself, but the claim that the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto – the pseudonymous figure who created Bitcoin in 2008 and compiled its white paper – would eventually be revealed.
Unsurprisingly, such an ambitious take on one of the best-kept secrets of this century caused a stir in the market, with all heads turning towards October 8 as the release date.
Of course, amid all the waiting, rumors and speculation began to spread about who Satoshi really was, and aged theories resurfaced.
“Not I”
One of these theories is that the creator of Bitcoin is Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream and one of the few people mentioned in the cryptocurrency’s main white paper. In fact, Back is known for his contributions to cryptography and the Bitcoin mining process, especially as the inventor of Hashcash.
Back, who is lively on social media, addressed the recurring speculations with just two words, “not me,” strongly denying any hint of being Satoshi Nakamoto. At the same time, it is known that the British cryptologist will take part in the upcoming series.
Other widely discussed identity options for Bitcoin’s creator include James A. Donald, an anonymous Canadian cypherpunk who was one of Bitcoin’s early critics, and Len Sassaman, an American technology specialist and cryptographer.
