Hashrate Foundry USA, the digital asset advisory firm with the world’s largest Bitcoin (BTC) mining pool, reduced its hashrate by approximately 60% since Friday in response to the severe winter storm that hit vast parts of the United States.
“Bitcoin hash rate at Foundry USA alone has dropped by almost 200 exahashes per second (EH/s), or 60%, since Friday amid ongoing restrictions. Temporary block production has slowed to 12 minutes,” it claims. MinerMag.
FoundryUSA still has a hash power of approximately 198 (EH/s), which is approximately 23% of the hashrate of the global mining pool, data from Hashrate Index shows.

Bitcoin miners can balance the power grid in emergency situations
Bitcoin miners act as a controlled source of load on the public electrical grid infrastructure, adjusting their energy demands to balance the grid during periods of peak demand and low consumer energy consumption.
Too much energy in the electrical grid system can damage energy infrastructure during periods of low demand and must be discharged safely to prevent damage to grid components and people.
Bitcoin miners can turn on their mining machines when demand is too low, draining otherwise hazardous levels of power from the network. Conversely, they can turn off their machines during periods of peak demand to allow energy to flow to consumers.
