Francine cuts power to more than 250,000 customers in Louisiana

(Reuters) – More than 250,000 homes and businesses in Louisiana were without power on Thursday after Hurricane Francine slammed into the Gulf Coast, according to data from PowerOutage.us.

Earlier in the day, Francine weakened to a subtropical cyclone, but not before making landfall in southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and Alabama, bringing hefty rains and gusty winds.

The utility that had the most impact was Entergy (NYSE:), which reported 209,288 outages.

“We have begun restoring service to our customers where it is safe to do so and are assessing the damage to our system caused by Francine,” Entergy said in a statement Thursday.

Next in line was Dixie Electric Membership Corporation, which disconnected 19,360 customers in the state.
