JetBlue (NASDAQ:JBLU) asked the US Department of Transportation to disqualify competing airline United Airlines (NASDAQ:UAL) in securing one of five modern round-trip flights from Reagan National Airport in Washington, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
JetBlue says United’s proposal to add Washington the flight to Los Angeles should be rejected because it would depart before 7 a.m., which is prohibited by Congress, According to the report.
In behind schedule June, the Department of Transportation announced that seven major U.S. airlines could apply for five modern daily round-trip flights from Washington Reagan National Airport. A New York-based airline has applied for a second round-trip flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico, from DCA, the closest airport to the U.S. Capitol and downtown.
Comments on the proposals are open until July 17, and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s decisions on the modern flights will be announced later this month.
