European Central Bank (ECB) policymaker José Luis Escrivá said on Thursday that higher energy costs are being passed on to services and transport, while warning during a speech in Barcelona that the inflation outlook for the European Union (EU) remains highly uncertain.

Key takeaways:

Energy costs are transferred to services and transport.

The baseline scenario is subject to significant uncertainty.

It is unclear how long it will take to restore oil production.

There is uncertainty about oil prices and the transmission of inflation.

There is uncertainty about the effects of the second round on wages.

The second-round effects on wages have yet to materialize.”
