Investing.com – Energy Web today announced the beta release of AutoGreenCharge, a mobile app that helps decarbonize electric vehicle (EV) charging by ensuring every charge is powered by renewable energy.

The app is available to electric vehicle owners worldwide, including owners of popular models such as Tesla (NASDAQ:), BMW (ETR:) and Mercedes (OTC:).

AutoGreenCharge is powered by Energy Web’s decentralized EnergywebX platform and secured by blockchain technology. The app matches electric vehicle charging sessions to renewable energy certificates (RECs), providing real-time verification that the energy used comes from renewable sources.

“AutoGreenCharge represents an important step forward towards the electrification and decarbonization of transportation,” said Mani Hagh Sefat, chief technology officer at Energy Web. “By providing electric vehicle owners with a hassle-free way to charge their cars with renewable energy, we are enabling drivers to make more sustainable choices and actively contribute to the global energy transition.”

The app also works with Smart Car to allow electric vehicle owners to easily connect their vehicles to the platform. Each charging session is automatically tracked, providing detailed insight into energy consumption and environmental impact.

As the full app gets closer, users will be able to roll back real RECs with each session. They will also have the opportunity to customize their preferences by selecting the type and location of renewable energy, including solar, wind and other tidy sources from around the world.

By integrating with Polkadot, AutoGreenCharge ensures every transaction and REC withdrawal is securely recorded.

In the future, users will be able to select certificates from a range of power plants with different attributes. For example, they can choose solar power plants located in high-emission grids, which have a greater impact on reducing carbon dioxide emissions compared to renewable energy facilities in areas already affluent in renewable energy sources.

The AutoGreenCharge beta is now available on Apple’s TestFlight and the Google (NASDAQ:) Play store.
