- Caldera’s Rollup-as-a-Service platform launches Guardian Nodes, a production-ready node system that allows network users to validate rollup locks for rewards.
- HYCHAIN, the first team to apply this system in Caldera, generated $8 million in its initial node sales.
Caldera, a leading Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS) platform, currently supports over fifty EVM rollups (including Manta, Injective inEVM, Kinto, HYCHAIN, Treasure, and ApeChain) securing a total locked value of ~$1 billion.
In addition to the core collection infrastructure, Caldera offers a catalog of over 50 integrations within its modular stack and an assortment of other custom user-facing tools that can be leveraged across networks.
Sentinel Nodes are the newest addition to this list.
Background
Currently, most L1 blockchains operate on a proof-of-stake model, where chain participants are incentivized through network rewards to lend their shares and validate the chain.
This incentive structure promotes decentralization by encouraging individual stakeholders to apply candid validators while penalizing those who do not, with extremely high costs of attacking and compromising the network.
Decentralization of collective packages
EVM rollups have almost solved the scalability problem, with L2 and L3 allowing for virtually infinite scale. However, there is still no incentive for candid network participants to monitor these summaries.
Caldera Guard Nodes enable teams to decentralize alignments, allowing users to verify locks and secure the network in exchange for rewards. In low, this is achieved by introducing a novel “light verifier” into Arbitrum packs, which allows Guardian Node operators to verify batches of Nitro on everyday hardware without having to run a full node.
Teams can make Guardian Nodes available to their users through a “node sale,” which distributes “keys” that authenticate the node’s authority to claim and earn rewards so that buyers can operate the Guardian Node within a given rollup.
HYCHAIN, the first team to apply this system, raised over $8 million from over 16,000 node keys in just 2 weeks, completely supercharging their community while generating significant revenue for their project.
By enabling more parties to police the rollup and identify malicious behavior, network security becomes more strong – a key step in building trust in the validity of the chain. This in turn generates greater demand for a native rollup token, which is required for users to participate in validation and helps ensure the practical cryptoeconomic security of the network.
Guardians Nodes are the next step in Caldera’s impressive infrastructure solution. Following the success of HYCHAIN’s launch, we expect more volume teams to apply this groundbreaking product in the coming months.
