United States (US) President Donald Trump said on Friday that he was deeply disappointed by the attitude of some members of the Supreme Court after it ruled that his sweeping tariffs were illegal. At a news conference in Washington, Trump promised to impose a 10% “global tariff” based on alternative law.

Key conclusions

This is deeply disappointing.

I feel ashamed for some members of the court.

Foreign countries are so elated.

Countries won’t dance for long.

The Court was influenced by foreign interests.

There are methods that are even stronger for me.

In the case of tariffs, other alternatives will be applied.

Maybe we can raise more money.

I can cut off all trade with a given country.

I can impose an embargo.

I’ll go in a stronger direction now.

The Supreme Court increased my ability to impose tariffs.

Customs revenues will augment.

With effect from now, all national security duties referred to in Article 301 remain in force.

A global tariff rate of 10% will be imposed on top of other duties.”
