Washington (Reuters) – US President’s administration Donald Trump asked American federal agencies on Friday to solve positions and offices related to programs of diversity, equality and social inclusion, as follows from the note sent by the Personnel Management Office.
Why is it crucial
Trump, a republican, has issued a number of executive ordinances to the liquidation of Dei programs since the office on Monday.
Dei programs are aimed at promoting opportunities for women, ethnic minorities, LGBT people and other traditionally insufficiently represented groups. Proponents of civil rights argue that such programs, generally supported by Democrats, are needed to remedy long -term unevenness and structural racism.
Trump and his allies claim that Dei programs unfairly discriminate against other Americans and weaken the importance of candidates’ merits in the recruitment or promotion process.
Key quote
“According to this ordinance, every agency, department or head of the commission will take action to resolve, to the maximum extent allowed by law, all offices and positions of Dei, Deia and” environmental justice “within sixty days,” reads the note. .
CONTEXT
Trump also put pressure on the private sector to join his attack on Dei. Civil law defenders claim that his pressure means a significant defeat in efforts to ensure equality in the scope of employment and contracts at federal level.
The note was not clearly clear how many Dei employees employ each federal agency.
