(Reuters) – Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:) Google is developing artificial intelligence technology that hijacks the web browser to perform tasks such as searching for information and making purchases, The Information reported on Saturday.

Google plans to demonstrate the product, codenamed Project Jarvis, as early as December with the launch of its next flagship, large-language Gemini model, the report added, citing people with direct knowledge of the product.

Microsoft (NASDAQ:)-backed OpenAI also wants its models to conduct research by browsing the network autonomously using a “CUA,” a computer-based agent that can take action based on the results, Reuters reported in July.

The report shows that Anthropic and Google are trying to take the agent concept a step further by creating software that interacts directly with a person’s computer or browser.

Google did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
