U.Today – Since the company’s founding, there have been debates and speculations regarding the identity of its enigmatic creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. With an upcoming HBO documentary set to reveal Satosh’s true identity, this assumption has intensified recently.

Polymarket predictions marketplace is now taking bets on who the documentary will name as the real Satoshi. Many well-known candidates are leading the predictions, which is surprising considering the platform’s performance. According to Polymarket’s October 8, 2024 betting results, Len Sassaman is at the top of the pack with a 45% chance of becoming Satoshi.

Sassaman, a cryptographer and privacy advocate, has long been seen as a potential candidate due to his familiarity with cypherpunk communities and deep knowledge in the field. Despite his tragic death in 2011, many consider Sassaman to be a mighty candidate due to his extensive experience in cryptography.

Second place with a 15% chance goes to Hal Finney, a cryptography pioneer and one of the first users of Bitcoin. Finney is known for receiving the first Bitcoin transaction from Nakamoto, and speculation has increased about his role in the early stages of the cryptocurrency’s development.

Some speculate that Finney may have known Satoshi’s true identity or operated under the Satoshi alias. Other celebrities with significantly lower rates include Nick Szabo and Adam Back, who are at 2% and 7% respectively. The origins of Bitcoin are commonly attributed to Szabo, a computer scientist known for his work on digital contracts.

Despite these draws, betting markets are skeptical about his claim to be Nakamoto. Although Adam Back, the creator of Hashcash, is less likely to be Satoshi, he has also been suggested as such. It’s worth noting that Craig Wright, who has openly confirmed his identity as Nakamoto, only has a 1% chance of winning. His controversial claim was largely rejected by the Bitcoin community due to a lack of convincing evidence.

Finally, 38% of bettors believe that the document will either name more than one person or not reveal who Satoshi is. The cryptocurrency world continues to watch and speculate as the release date of the HBO documentary approaches, with no clear answers.
