(Reuters) – The United Auto Workers union said on Wednesday that its members representing Ford’s (NYSE:) Tool and Die Division at its River Rouge intricate had reached a tentative agreement with the company, a day before a strike was due to take place.

At Ford’s Rouge Complex plant in Dearborn, Michigan, which employs about 6,000 people, more than 500 workers are employed in the tool and die department, according to a union representative.

The union said its members will review the details of the agreement and hold a ratification vote in the coming days.

“If ratified, the agreement would set a new standard for skilled workers at Ford,” the union added.

Last week, the union said it would go on strike on September 26 if local contract issues were not resolved, adding that job security, pay parity and work rules were key topics in the negotiations.
