U.Today – Sixteen years ago, pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto took a key step in the development of what would become the world’s first decentralized cryptocurrency — Bitcoin.
According to Bitcoin historian Pete Rizzo, August 18, 2008 is a watershed moment in Bitcoin’s history. On that day, Satoshi registered the domain Bitcoin.org, marking the beginning of a financial revolution around the world.
“16 years ago, Satoshi Nakamoto registered the first Bitcoin website. Since then, bitcoin.org has hosted his free code, a symbol of financial freedom for millions of people around the world,” Pete Rizzo wrote on Twitter.
The Bitcoin.org domain later became the central node of Satoshi Nakamoto’s groundbreaking paper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”, which was published in October 2008.
While Bitcoin was officially launched in January 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto laid the foundation for a blockchain-based payment system in a paper published in 2008.
Satoshi’s legacy continues to resonate, with Rizzo pointing out in his tweet that the Bitcoin.org website remains a beacon of financial freedom for millions of people around the world. The site hosted Satoshi’s free code, allowing anyone with an internet connection to access and contribute to the Bitcoin network. This open-source approach was fundamental to Bitcoin’s growth and adoption.
Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity remains a mystery
Satoshi Nakamoto’s innovation, Bitcoin, has made tremendous progress over the years, but the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator remains one of the greatest mysteries in the world of technology and finance.
Some speculation suggests that multiple people may be responsible for Nakamoto, although this is not certain.
The FBI said Satoshi could be “one or more third parties,” adding that it could neither confirm nor deny their existence in response to questions from Dave Troy, a prominent technology researcher, the sources said.
