Former Rockwell Collins CEO Kelly Ortberg is being considered as a potential candidate for Boeing’s CEO job (NYSE:BA), TAir current it was announced on Sunday.
The development comes as Boeing (BA) considers replacing its current CEO Dave Calhoun, who will step down by the end of the year after a series of operational challenges and safety concerns about the 737 MAX aircraft.
Ortberg served as an advisor to the CEO of RTX Corporation (RTX) and led Rockwell Collins and its successor entities for approximately eight years as it navigated mergers, acquisitions and restructuring. He has 30 years of experience in the aerospace industry.
Another potential candidate is Pat Shanahan, CEO of Spirit AeroSystems (SPR). Earlier in July, Boeing (BA) agreed to acquire Spirit (SPR), one of its major suppliers and manufacturing partners, for $4.7 billion in stock.
Longtime Boeing (BA) employee and COO Stephanie Pope also joins the list of potential candidates. Current Boeing (BA) Chairman Steve Mollenkopf is also in the running.
The Board of Directors is expected to make a decision on a novel CEO “sooner or later,” report he said. The timing remains uncertain and could come as early as this week, coinciding with the company’s second-quarter earnings announcement on July 31.
